The Edro III Shipwreck Review

PICTURES & PRICING

Peyia Municipality has a wedding venue which offers a unique experience for couples tying the knot. Found close to a stranded ship which ran aground in Paphos in stormy seas two and a half years ago, ‘Gliki Nero Bay’? Officials describe the spot as ‘magical’.

This is an amazing and magical place with stunning panoramic views and will offer an alternative for couples who don’t want to get married at the town hall

The Edro III, an 83-meter-long cargo ship, is located a few miles away from Peyia and the Sea Caves area. The wreck is right on the shore and, at first glance, looks like an abandoned garden.

For the story, the Sierra Leone-flagged Edro III left from Limassol to Rhodes in bad weather and with a cargo of plasterboard.  Finally, the ship drifted due to the strong winds and rough seas and finally went ashore near Peyia.  The ship remained stranded on the rocks in the sea caves area of Paphos since the 8th of December in 2011. At the time of the accident, the ship had nine crew members – seven Albanians and two Egyptians. The crew were rescued and airlifted by a local British Military helicopter.

The Edro III was built in 1966 by Kaldnes Mekaniske Verksted at Tonsberg in Norway.   It is worth mentioning that  the shipwreck is considered as an amazing spot for a photo opportunity, since sunsets there- especially in high season-are worth the visit.
